  16. This CD collection of applications provided by our software partners, 
  17. along with the rest of the demos, tools and application software that 
  18. make up the Ultra(TM) Pack, is designed to help you take advantage of 
  19. UltraComputing. Try these applications and you will see how you can 
  20. reach a new level of functionality and productivity on your new Sun 
  21. Ultra system.

  23. The following descriptions of the partner applications on this CD have
  24. been provided by the respective companies.
  25.  
  26. * Caldera Imaging Software - Cameleo is a unique professional software 
  27.   package for image acquisition, processing, retouching, RIP (PostScript
  28.   and HPGL/2), color calibration/separation and output.  It is the first
  29.   1 to 16 bits per color component software (RGB, CMYK, Grayscale) 
  30.   available on UNIX(R) workstations.  It supports many graphics peripheral 
  31.   devices not previously available in UNIX environments and allows seamless 
  32.   sharing of those peripheral resources, both printers and scanners, in 
  33.   heterogeneous client-server environments.

  35.   Graffiti is a 32-bit professional software package for image creation, 
  36.   manipulation, editing, and retouching/photocomposition.  It supports
  37.   24-bit images with 256 transparency levels per pixel with no size
  38.   limitations in eight different file formats.  It works on three 
  39.   distinct and mixable layers, enabling image mixing and photomontage,
  40.   in real time.  Cameleo and Graffiti work together to provide a total 
  41.   imaging solution, ideally suited to the superior imaging performance
  42.   of Sun's UltraComputing systems.

  44. * The Maestro Presentation Package - Maestro is a suite of more than ten 
  45.   applications that work together to form a flexible and simple authoring 
  46.   toolkit.  It is extensible so that new applications and media, such as 
  47.   MPEG movies and animations, can be added quickly and easily to the 
  48.   authoring environment.  It also takes full advantage of the 24-bit 
  49.   true-color graphics, CD-quality audio, and ONC RPC-based distributed 
  50.   computing that are standard features of UltraComputing systems from Sun.

  52. * Sun Microsystems Laboratories Tcl/Tk - Tcl is a simple scripting language
  53.   that makes it easy to build programmable applications and connect them 
  54.   together.  Tk is a graphical user interface toolkit based on Tcl:  it 
  55.   allows you to create GUI applications by writing Tcl scripts instead of 
  56.   C code.  Together, Tcl and Tk make it possible to build GUI applications 
  57.   five to twenty times more quickly than with traditional toolkits based 
  58.   on C or C+.  Because Tcl is an interpreted language, it provides
  59.   instantaneous turn-around during testing (no long waits for compilation),
  60.   but also requires high-performance systems, especially for large
  61.   applications.  The fast processors and blazing graphics of Sun's new 
  62.   Ultra machines are ideally suited to executing Tcl/Tk scripts, even for 
  63.   complex tasks.

  65. * SoftQuad HoTMetaL - SoftQuad HoTMetaL 2.0 is the newest version of
  66.   SoftQuad's freely available HTML authoring tool.  Based on HoTMetaL 
  67.   PRO 2.0, SoftQuad's award-winning commercial version, the freeware 
  68.   version allows users to easily create documents for publication on 
  69.   the World Wide Web. HoTMetaL's features include point-and-click markup 
  70.   and multiple toolbars from which common operations can be performed. 
  71.   HoTMetaL's rules-checking feature ensures users create valid HTML 
  72.   documents and its previewing capability allows documents to be 
  73.   previewed from within the user's browser of choice.

  75. * Doom from ID Software - Doom is the exciting 3D underground search and
  76.   destroy game that took the web world by storm in recent years. Using 
  77.   state-of-the-art compression techniques and animation algorithms, the
  78.   makers of Doom -- ID Software -- brought video arcade style graphics and 
  79.   performance to the PC for the first time. Now DOOM goes one better, and
  80.   has been ported specifically for the Sun Graphics architecture: DGA.  This 
  81.   version, called "DGA SunDoom", is the fastest, highest resolution version
  82.   of Doom you will find anywhere. It includes multi-player network support 
  83.   and runs especially well on the Ultrasparc Creator Graphics architecture.

  86. * Adobe Acrobat Reader - Adobe(R) Acrobat (TM) software lets you create 
  87.   electronic documents from a wide range of authoring tools for sharing 
  88.   across different computer platforms, including Solaris, SunOS, HP-UX, 
  89.   Microsoft Windows, and Macintosh.  Simply "print" your documents to the 
  90.   Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) and distribute them over a broad 
  91.   selection of electronic media, including the World Wide Web, electronic 
  92.   mail, Lotus Notes (R), or CD-ROM.  From the simplest memos to the richest
  93.   color brochures, Adobe Acrobat software lets you publish and manage your 
  94.   documents electronically, preserving their original look and feel,
  95.   independent of computer platform or distribution media and without 
  96.   a large investment of time and money.

  98. * Faximum Fax Modem Software - Faximum Client/Server software provides a
  99.   friendly fax client combined with a powerful fax server that will enable
  100.   your UltraSPARC machine to provide fax services to your entire network
  101.   effortlessly and efficiently.

  103.   The graphical user interface lets users submit faxes from their workstations
  104.   easily while the command-line interface makes it trivial for programmers to
  105.   fax-enable their applications.  Advanced features include forms overlay,
  106.   least-cost route selection, and intelligent dialing, remote server
  107.   administration, support for PostScript and Sun raster files, and many more.

  109.   The Faximum product included here is a 30-day evaluation copy and is
  110.   compatible with most Class 2 or 2.0 fax modems.

  140.        Double-click on the "run_demo" icon and when prompted, click

  143.     3. If running CDE, change directories to "/cdrom", and then "cdrom0"
  144.        using File Manager.  Double-click on "run_demo" and when the 
  145.        "Action:Run" dialog box comes up, simply click "OK".
